Andrew Kenworthy

Andrew Kenworthy
Chief Executive
NHS Nottingham City

Andrew has been Chief Executive of NHS Nottingham City since 2007. He has previously been Chief Executive of Kensington and Chelsea Primary Care Trust and Durham Dales Primary Care Trusts.

He has a real interest in improving the delivery and financial performance of health systems. However despite his desire to improve systems and performance he remains a loyal York City supporter.

He has worked in a number of different health communities including North Yorkshire, Calderdale and Kirklees, Bradford, Bristol, London and the North East. His roles have been varied but include operational management, commissioning, performance improvement and directing a health action zone. He has also worked for, and with, the Audit Commission and Cabinet Office to examine how to improve inter-governmental working. Odd facts about Andrew would be that he owns a collection of antique clocks which randomly bong time throughout the day, his favourite ever record was “Horse with no name” by America and he (but no one else) feels he is a pretty mean cook.

Engagement of clinicians has been a key part of Andrews approach to improving performance. He has led clinical networks for cancer and heart disease/stroke and has consistently tried to ensure that there is close relationship between general practitioners and commissioners to ensure that resources are spent in the most effective way possible. As a regular user of health services, particularly through his rugby playing days, he believes that the drive to improve quality in health services is the most important means of engaging clinicians and patients in delivering change. Andrew has a degree in geography and spent a year in the USA studying clouds. He also has post graduate qualifications in information science and business.

At present Andrew is trying to learn to do the splits, when asked by his Gym trainer how flexible he was – he replied that he could not make Tuesday.
